For the division Electrochemical Energy Systems in Freiburg we are looking for 

Scientific staff/PhD for the Synthesis & Characterization of Ionomers for Fuel Cells - 80% (m/f/d)

Your tasks

  • Organic Synthesis of PFAS-free ionomers
  • Physicochemical characterization of newly developed molecules (NMR, FTIR, Raman, TGA, DSC, GPC/SEC, BET)
  • Ionomer characterization (IEC, swelling behavior, and permeability)
  • Investigation of structure–property relationships between polymer architecture and its properties
  • Data handling of external measurements as NMR, FTIR, viscometry or GPC
  • Integration of developed ionomers into electro-chemical devices
  • Publication of results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Presentation at national and international confer-ences
  • Co-supervision of Bachelor's and Master's students
  • Close collaboration with academic and industrial project partners

The position is initially limited to 3 years.

Your Profile

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in organic chemistry, preferably polymer synthesis and processing
  • Familiarity with physicochemical characterization techniques (NMR, GPC, FTIR, Raman…)
  • Creativity, high personal initiative, work independently and team oriented
  • Good English skills
  • Enjoying R&D lab work as well as coordinative tasks
  • Well-structured and goal-oriented working style
